This is the lands of the Ancient Ones, who lived in this part of the country a thousand years ago.
We pack in approximately nine miles into our base camp. Our accommodations are quite comforable, including a 16 X 20 dining tent and cabin style sleeping tents accommodating two guests each. They are equipped with full sized cots and Eddie Bauer pads for exceptional comfort in a primitive setting. Our meals are excellent and include gourmet fooods and fresh baked desserts.
Our horses have all been selected for character and physical stamina enabling them to negotiate precipitous terrain in a very depnedable manner. As we operate in a wilderness area all of our supplies and camp equipment is packed in on horseback. This certainly makes one appreciate the elaborate camp developed to accommodate our guests. Most of our equipment is packed utilizing a single or double diamond hitch which results in a secure load. It is most certainly an art and offers some very distinctive opportunities to photograph.
In order to provide each person with personalized, high quality service, we limit our group sizes. Four day trips are the norm. However, longer stays can be arranged if made well in advance.
During the course of a typical four day trip we will ride up one of the canyons and explore known ruins and look for "undiscovered" ruins. In the discovery process we will describe the ruins and mark them for the BLM's archeologist. It is our goal and philosophy to educate folks on the culture of the Ancient Ones, to preserve the prehistoric sites and enjoy the country.
To get to many of the ruins we will tie the horses up and walk to the ruins. Because of the nature of the country and where many of the sites are it will invlove a bit of climbing some hills.
In addition to the ruins, scenery, and wildlife, there are also some old mines around the area, which are fun to explore and learn about.
